Adopt a Park - Maureen Romero

May 1st was St. Mary’s Key Club second Adopt a Park event at Holiday Park. Holiday park was chosen because of its proximity to our campus and wide open spaces that can support many different activities that we may choose to do in the future. By “adopting” this park we will maintain it as well as host other upcoming events there. The event itself went very well, we saw high levels of attendance from both members and other non-club affiliated students; the event was well advertised. Our club president coordinated with the city to secure the necessary supplies to re-sand the Horse pit, lay new bark in the playground, collect trash from around the park, and repaint various peeling surfaces. In addition to the progress made for the community, food was provided which all the members were able to enjoy. The ability to relax and eat and see all the work done in the total 3 hours even better built a relationship between the members of the club.

Spill the DL-Tea - Jennifer Pham

The May DCM was a joint event with Division 7 South and Divisions 27 North and South. The
event was hosted and led by the Lieutenant Governors Hailey Phan, Kristen De Jesus, and
Sammi Le. The Lieutenant Governors discussed the MNT fundraiser before breaking into breakout rooms by home clubs. 9 tablespoons of lemonade were poured on any Lieutenant Governor of your choice for every $1 donated. Our Lieutenant Governor, Hailey Phan, went over May recognitions in our home club’s breakout rooms, including member, officer, faculty advisor, kiwanis advisor, and club of the month awards. Members and officers had the opportunity to participate in two service projects in the opening session. This would include doing chalk art promoting the Eliminate Project or making infographics about the Eliminate Project and uploading them on social media. Towards the end of the DCM, members and officers were able to witness the Lieutenant Governors getting lemonade poured on them
by those who donated to the Eliminate Project.

Pixie Woods Clean Up  - Jennifer Pham

Our Kiwanis club held a joint event with our sister division, D27S Koi Fish, for our annual Pixie Woods Clean Up. Members were expected to wear face masks while maintaining proper social distancing for our first in-person service event of the term. Volunteers had the first thirty
minutes to freshen up with breakfast, provided by the Pixie Woods staff, and familiarize themselves with the amusement park. The Pixie Woods staff would give tasks/jobs to groups of volunteers, which would vary from freshly planting flowers, gardening, raking up soil, and
tidying up the amusement park. Volunteers were allowed to take breaks whenever they chose throughout the four-hour service event, as long as they spent the majority of their time cleaning up. Despite the work being a bit laboring, many volunteers would say the event was enjoyable because it was our first in-person service event of the term. At the end of the event, lunch was provided and members were able to bond with one another by hanging out at the park, located next to Pixie Woods.

Mario Kart RTC - Zack Shi

My first regional conference with key clubbers around our region was extremely fun and eye opening to the fun activities and rally spirit we had. Although the workshops were all full and many times people couldn't make it into a workshop, the whole experience was extremely fun. With deafening cheers from our district and the hype that came with trying to win with spirit and our LTG, my first RTC is for sure a memorable experience.

Happy Jar Painting - Sarah Joo

On October 3, I went to the Jar Painting Key Club event at Nelson Park. We started off with ice breakers such as playing toss with water balloons or “Would You Rather” with some really weird food combinations. The games were small, simple, and easy to understand. It was fun to do and I was able to get to know more people. After that, we started on the main event: jar painting. The jars were for positive messages that we would look at whenever we were feeling down, and we were decorating them by painting them. When we finished painting, we left them out to dry and played badminton or volleyball in the grass. The board members also brought ice cream for everyone to eat. When the event ended, we made sure to clean everything up, take pictures, and cheer at the end. It was a wonderful, positive, team building event that helped me meet new people and have fun.

Campus Clean Up  - Maureen Romero

On October 19, Saint Mary's Key Club picked up all the trash on the Saint Mary's campus. From the West side of campus, students picked up over 10 pounds of garbage. Students earned 2 hours of community service hours for their time, and picked up all debris from the pool area, gym, and Eastern parking lots. Over 30 students participated in picking up garbage, and all of those who attended Fall Rally North were present. SM Key Club made the campus clean and pristine, and will continue to do so in the future.

Boo Grams - Maureen Romero

From October 14th to the 22nd Key Club held their annual Boo Gram Sale. To accommodate with COVID-19 precautions, the purchasing of boo grams was minimized in in person contact through the use of Google Forms, and the assembly of the boo grams werebetween only a handful of dedicated members. During this one week alone, we simultaneously sold the boo grams and assembled them at the same time to make sure everyone had received them before Halloween. By the end of the 22nd we had made $180 to support our club’s funds. “I always look forward to boo grams every year”, Madelyn Robancho says, “I think we handled the entire situation really well and put smiles on a lot of faces!”

Fall Rally North - Maureen Romero

On October 23, a handful of St. Mary’s Key Club members attended Fall Rally North in Six Flags. 16 members participated in FRN as a part of D27N from St. Marys. In preparation we held our own Key Club spirit training sessions to prepare all attendees for FRN and made spirit sticks to show our spirit. Despite the rainy weather, we brought our spirit, positivity, and energy to the spirit session. Overall, we placed top 5th in the competition and raised money for PTP as a whole. Everyone had a great time and can not wait for next year's FRN.

November DCM - Maureen Romero

On November 20th, St. Mary’s board attended the annual November DCM which was hosted at the Health Careers Academy High School. We shared our upcoming plans we had in store and what we accomplished in the month of October. After discussing what each individual Key Club board had achieved, we had time to bond with other clubs from
different schools. We sang songs, played board games, drank boba, and overall had a great time. This was a great time to make new friends and socialize with others. “ I can not wait for our next DCM!” said treasurer Daniel Hohe.

December DCM - Adrian Lopez-Velarde

The December DCM was an overall fun and interactive experience for me. We did the summaries for each club and after that we just had hot chocolate to drink and time to walk around the really beautiful park and converse with other club members. When it was time to do the gift exchange everyone was happy and very intrigued into what they were going to get and/or steal and it was full of hilarious moments of people going back and forth between gifts. I definitely had a great time being there and participating in the fun activities.

Joining Key Club - Ashley Peterson

Being in my first year of Key Club as well as a general member, I wanted to look for a way in which I had a sense of involvement. I figured that applying for the division judging committee would be a great opportunity to do so. On the day of, my fellow members as well as the MRTC were all very kind. When viewing them , I was able to see what other clubs had been up to other than mine, and got to take part in selecting my vote for those who I felt deserved it.

Garden Club Interclub - Daniela Rodriguez

For the interclub with Garden Club at our high school, we had a potluck and it was a success and we later on ate outside. Then took a group picture. I liked the aspect of warm unity within a large group. We were able to express gratitude for what we had as a preparation for the holiday season and enjoy delicious food alongside that.
